I’d like to consider testing- what do I do now?
As this is a new initiative, testing through this website can only be offered as part of a research study conducted by the Hereditary Cancer Clinic of the Prince of Wales Hospital and the University of New South Wales.
This is how to participate:
Step 1: proceed to the eligibility questions by clicking at the bottom of this page
Step 2: Download and read the Participant Information Form.
Step 3: Register your details
Step 4: Consent to participate by clicking on the 'I consent to participate" button (this is not consent for genetic testing at this stage)
Step 5: read through the information about BRCA testing and the points to consider
Step 6: complete a questionnaire
If you decide you do want to have BRCA1 and BRCA2 testing, complete a genetic testing consent form, which will notify us that you want to be tested. A cheek swab sample kit will be mailed to you. Follow the instructions and return the sample kit by mail.
If you decide that genetic testing is not right for you, we will ask you to answer a few short specific questions. These questions will be emailed to you soon after declining the test.
