BRCA JeneScreen Genetic Screening Program
BRCA gene faults are found in 1 in 40 Ashkenazi Jews, and somewhat less in Sephardi and other Jewish communities. This means that most people being tested through this program have a high chance (39 out of 40) that no gene fault will be found.
However, finding out that you do carry a BRCA gene fault has serious implications for yourself, your children, and other members of your family.
Before consenting to undergo testing, we would like you to closely read through the next few pages. Consider each issue carefully. We encourage you to discuss these issues with your partner, family, family doctor or others who may help you decide if testing is right for you.
You don’t need to complete the program at one time. You can come back to it after you have thought about the questions if you wish.
