If you are female and you are found to have a BRCA gene fault, it means that you have a 70% chance of getting breast cancer and a 20-40% chance of developing ovarian cancer by the age of 70.

There are many emotions that follow getting this type of news. After initial distress, most people cope well in the long term. However, testing through this program may not be right for you if you 

• have a past history of anxiety, depression or other mental health issues

• are dealing with difficult issues right now, such as illness in the family, bereavement, divorce or work related stress

• don’t feel that you have good supports to help you deal with difficult decisions right now
